AVID at Harada
WE ARE AVID! Advancement Via Individual Determination
Harada is an AVID Elementary School!
Being an AVID Elementary school means the following for Harada Elementary School students:
- The vision of “college and career bound” begins in kindergarten.
- Teachers will teach and utilize research based strategies that support high levels of student learning
- All Harada students will be expected to demonstrate actions that create a school focused on learning.
- Students will be exposed to community partnership opportunities.
Every Monday is "College Day" at Harada Elementary School. Students, staff, and teachers wear the shirt (or colors) of their future college of choice. If your child does not already own a college shirt, they can be found at area stores (Old Navy, Target, Walmart, K-Mart, etc.) or you can make one with 3, 4, or 5 letters that stand for your child's future school of choice!

WICOR is an instructional model that stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.
It's a learning approach that helps students become more engaged and develop the skills they need to be ready for college and careers.
Here are some key features of WICOR:
- Student-centered
- WICOR puts students at the center of their learning, empowering them to take charge of their thinking and learning.
- Collaborative teaching
- WICOR is built on collaborative teaching and learning, with strategies that engage both teachers and students.
- Rigorous learning
- WICOR helps teachers provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through rigorous course content.
- Skill-building
- WICOR is a scaffolded process that begins in elementary school and continues through K-12.
Effective in any setting
WICOR strategies can be used in face-to-face, blended, and virtual learning environments.
