When someone other than parent/legal guardian is picking up a student from school early they MUST provide written documentation EACH TIME with the following information:
The note must state:
The parent(s) full name, the name of the person authorized to pick up, the name of the student(s), the corresponding date and it must be signed.
Please be advised that students will not be pulled out of class prior to parent/guardian arrival. The parent(s)/legal guardian/authorized person must physically sign them out in order to pull them out of class.

📜 Our Attendance Framework & Policies
Mandatory Attendance & Accountability
In accordance with California Education Code 48290, school-age children are expected to attend school every single day. While the law authorizes the County District Attorney to hold parents accountable for compulsory attendance, our primary goal at Harada is to collaborate with you early to prevent legal steps.
Parent Notification Letters
If an attendance pattern begins to impact your child's learning, the District Office sends out supportive notifications to alert families and invite corrective action. You may receive:
Tardy Letters: Sent when morning arrivals consistently impact the start of the instructional day.
Excessive Excused Absence Letters: Sent when a high volume of excused misses starts adding up to critical lost learning time.
Truancy Letters: Sent when unexcused absences occur without valid communication.
What is SARB? (School Attendance Review Board)
When severe, habitual truancy or chronic absences continue despite school intervention, families are recommended to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
The Goal: A SARB hearing is a collaborative panel designed to build an intensive support plan for your family.
Please Note: If attendance does not improve following a SARB hearing, the matter is unfortunately referred to the courts, which may issue penalties to seek compliance with compulsory attendance.

Data & Outreach: Analyzing trends to catch attendance challenges early and reaching out with positive Tier 2 interventions.
SART Support: Hosting School Attendance Review Team (SART) meetings right here on campus to problem-solve face-to-face with families.
Presentations: Providing helpful attendance workshops and presentations for student groups and parent organizations.
District-Level & Tier 3 Support
When specialized care is needed, Harada works seamlessly with the RUSD district team to provide targeted, compassionate intervention:
Home Visits: Meeting families where they are to understand barriers to school attendance.
Special Program Collaboration: Partnering with Foster Youth, McKinney-Vento (homeless support), and other Special Programs to guarantee equity and access.
Community Agency Referrals: Connecting families to local resources, housing support, healthcare, or counseling.

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a dedicated group of parents and community members who advocate for our English Learner (EL) students. Per California guidelines, every school with 21 or more English Learners establishes an ELAC to ensure our multilingual students have a powerful voice on campus.

The primary role of the ELAC is to advise the principal, school staff, and the School Site Council (SSC) on the programs, resources, and services that best support English Learners.
Beyond this, our ELAC partners in several critical ways:
The SPSA Plan: Advising on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
Needs Assessment: Assisting in the creation and review of the school’s annual needs assessment.
Language Census: Partnering in the development of the school's annual Language Census Report.
Attendance Awareness: Creating and supporting campus efforts to help parents understand the critical importance of regular school attendance.

At Harada Elementary, academic excellence is a team sport! Funded by Title I, Part A, our School- Home Compact is a voluntary agreement that outlines how our staff, families, and students work hand-in-hand to ensure every Hornet reaches the State's highest academic standards.
Here is how we share the responsibility for student success:
School Responsibilities: Our dedicated teachers promise to provide high-quality, standards-based instruction in a supportive environment. We pledge to continuously monitor student progress, offer targeted support, hold annual parent-teacher conferences, provide frequent progress reports, and offer open access to staff and classroom volunteer opportunities.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities: Our families support the hive by monitoring daily attendance, ensuring homework completion, managing recreational screen time, and staying deeply informed through ParentSquare and school notices. Parents are also encouraged to participate in educational decisions, promote positive extracurricular time, and volunteer on campus when possible.
Student Responsibilities: Our Hornets agree to arrive prepared and ready to learn, follow school rules, show respect to peers and adults, give 100% effort daily, complete homework, and read for 20–30 minutes every evening.
